One of the hottest prospects in UK golf has landed a new sponsorship deal with a Retford optician he hopes will see him on his way to the very top.

Retford-born Ben Smith, 23, has been playing golf since he was 15 and is aiming to eventually become a regular face on the European Tour circuit.

Last year he took part in around 20 UK tournaments and is hoping to do the same this year—only this time he will be wearing the Specsavers name.

Retford store director Karen Allen said: “Ben’s father is a patient of ours. He always talks about how well Ben is doing and his ambition to become a highly ranked professional golfer.

“When he mentioned that Ben was looking for sponsors to help fund his 2017 tour it seemed like a great opportunity for us to support local talent and raise awareness of eye health in young people.”

Karen was on hand to support Ben for his first fundraising event of the year on Wednesday, May 10, with a 20-team competition at at Retford Golf Club.

Ben said: “I’m really grateful to Karen and the Specsavers team. I have 20/20 vision but get a regular eye test to ensure it stays that way. It’s vital my health is at its best.”
