Optician’s new heights

A WORKSOP optician has secured £15,000 of sponsorship after aiming high to raise money for charity.

Kamal Aftab, an optometrist at Specsavers Worksop, went to Specsavers co-founder Dame Mary Perkins in his bid for sponsors of his trek across the Alps.

Impressed by his lofty ambition, Dame Mary pledged to donate £15,000 in sponsorship, which will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

She said: “I am proud of all Specsavers staff who go the extra mile for charity, whether it is on a local scale or an international challenge such as Kamal’s.”

Kamal, 30, added: “Knowing that we had raised so much money and had the support of Specsavers was a real boost for us all throughout a difficult five days.”
