LETTER: We need to look again at voting reform

I can sympathise with this point of view. To rectify this issue, may I suggest suggestions for discussion. Firstly, we should have a Royal Commission on having a written constitution. This country is one of the few nations of the civilised world that doesn’t have a codified set of documents to determine legal and judicial requirements. Secondly, we should have a careful look at the issue of proportional representation. But this would have to be attached to the practical issue of a Member of Parliament of direct electoral links with the constituency. Thirdly, a suggestion for constitutional change would be to have a ‘two general election process.’ An election on a Sunday followed by another election the following Sunday. The second Sunday’s election would consist of the last two remaining candidates. I have nothing but despair with the two main political parties who are not answering questions put to them by television commentators. Two immediate reforms would be the ending of the Parliamentary Deposit System and the creation of equal public financing for political parties and groups.
