Future vision for Worksop

Let us leave Mike Quigley to dwell on the past and his Icelandic banks, (letters July 29th). I would much prefer your contributors to discuss a future vision for Worksop, what do we want Worksop to be like in 10 or 15 years time?

I for one would like to see:

The A1 corridor exploited for commercial and recreational use. Harworth and Markham Moor to have industrial and warehousing investment.

Out of town recreational and retail units along the A1 to draw in customers from a 75 mile radius as well as overnight travellers on the motorway.

To develop a Lee Westwood golf complex.

To reorient our politics and economy towards Sheffield especially by improving the A57 to the city.

To open the railway to Doncaster to passenger traffic, thus bringing in communities such as Dinnington and Maltby closer to Worksop.

To identify some medium sized businesses that could grow into something bigger in partnership with the council.

To utilise our central geographical location to attract a national sports or artistic HQ complex.

These are starters for 10, but the real work of political, economic and social analysis should come from councillors and officers over the next twelve months to ensure that Worksop and the rest of Bassetlaw achieves, grows and brings economic and civic prosperity to its people.
