Free bus was most welcome

How brilliant it was to travel by bus from my home near Clowne, via Worksop onto Doncaster to attend the recent trolley bus museum’s gathering at Sandtoft on the Lincolnshire/South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire border.

The free shuttle bus service provided by the museum between Doncaster interchange and Sandtoft (14 miles away) was a lovely and most welcomed gesture. Thanks to all.

Seeing ‘silent’ and very graceful trolley buses gliding around the disused airfield at Sandtoft is a marvellous sight. The deep colours of the buses’ livery putting many modern bus operators to shame. When the environmentalists are calling for a slow down on the burning of fossil fuels and the resulting emissions, surely electric power is a real solution to the serious problem facing the world today.

On the return journey from Worksop to Clowne, the magnificent floral display at the junction of Elmton Road with Sheffield Road in Creswell was out of this world. As the nine segments of the flower bed were arranged in away to emulate the wheel at the colliery pithead that now stands as a reminder of Creswell’s rich past, what a shame then that the people running this country of ours are not as prolific in their thoughts and deeds.
