Bus trips aren’t a nice experience

Travelling to Mansfield or Newark using public transport is a comfortable experience, especially when you reach their modern new bus stations.

Contrast that with what Worksop greets you with as you leave the bus station on Hardy Street, you realise how behind the times the Gateway to the Dukeries is!

When I first moved into the area (over 40 years ago now) the bus garage was an indoor bus station with protection from wind, rain, snow and all the other elements that this unpredictable country throws at us!

So I wonder who made the decision to sell off our indoor bus station to Stagecoach or East Midland Bus Company as it was back then?

Also, there used to be a direct bus from Worksop to our nearest city Sheffield, but for the past 10 years commuters are forced to pay overpriced fares on the trains for a quick and convenient connection to Sheffield. Why is this I ask?

Whilst I am impressed with the comfortable double decker buses (as used on the No 77 route between Worksop and Chesterfield), the very uncomfortable and noisy journeys undertaken on the No 19, 20, 22 and 25 routes to Rotherham and Doncaster make single-decker travel undesirable!
