But it’s not what you think. Next Tuesday (8th May) Anne Coleman, will convert one of her function rooms at the Three-Legged Stool, in Raymouth Lane, into a youth club for the youngsters in the Gateford area.

Anne is being supported by PCSOs Ryan Bowskill and Sue Shaw, but the success of the scheme is dependent on interest shown by local teens.

The first session is a trial run, so 13 to 18-year-olds should show their support by attending at 6.30pm next Tuesday. Admission costs 50p and there is a £1 fee for annual membership.

This is an excellent option for youngsters who want to get out of the house but remain sheltered. It’s not only a change, but is also an opportunity to meet new people.

It also gives parents the peace of mind that while they get the night off, their children are occupied in a safe, supervised environment.

Activities such as snooker and pool will be on offer as well as computer game competitions. There will also be hot food.

On a related note, The Romans Rest and The Innings are the latest pubs from our patch to join the local Pubwatch scheme.

In other news, we have been appalled to hear of the recent attacks on wild birds at Kilton Forest Golf Club.

Reports have come in of the animals being shot at with air weapons. This has led to the discovery of dead goldfinches and moorhens, and the subsequent exodus of many birds from the lakes entirely.

You do not have to be an animal lover to understand this is an incredibly cruel act. It is also extremely dangerous. Offenders can face prosecution by the RSPCA for cruelty, but in more serious cases, where a person is injured, police will make arrests. Air pellets can cause serious injuries to people and have been known to kill. On these occasions, we will pursue convictions for assault and even murder. If you see anyone using air weapons to harm animals, or know the culprits, call us.
