Welcome from CID

In a change from the norm this week, and from here on in forming part of your police column line-up, I thought I would add input from your Criminal Investigation Department, or CID as we are more commonly known.

My name is Ash Wilson and I am the Detective Inspector responsible for all crime matters within Bassetlaw, this also encompasses the outlying villages of Harworth, Blyth, Carlton, Langold and everywhere in between.

Let’s start with the introductions. I joined Notts Police in 1989 and I have been based predominantly within CID since 1997, working as a Detective Constable, Detective Sergeant and Detective Inspector. I transferred to Bassetlaw from Mansfield in 2011.

I have lived locally all my life so I am very familiar with the area and more importantly I share your issues and concerns regarding crime.

I lead two teams of detectives within the Bassetlaw area. Each is supervised by a Detective Sergeant, and one is based at Retford and the other here at Worksop.

In terms of how we fit into the Nottinghamshire Police family, our job as detectives is to take on those serious or complex crimes that require a more indepth, long-term investigation, including all house burglaries. This frees up the Neighbourhood and Response teams to be able to deter and tackle crime on a daily basis.

I like to describe Response as a sprint and Neighbourhoods as a steeple chase. CID, then, is a marathon.

My teams pursue criminals relentlessly, carrying out detailed and thorough investigations, which often means we work long hours on painstaking inquiries but with a clear goal in mind, to bring offenders to justice and provide some solace for victims of crime.

But we cannot do this without your support and information. I urge you to be our eyes and ears out on the streets and report any suspicious activity immediately.

Call Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
