Thieves capitalise on cycling craze

But remember, criminals are not immune to the Bradley bug and will certainly look to capitalise on this craze to the detriment of cyclists.

Over the last few weeks thieves have been targeting bikes. There has been a particular problem with break-ins to garden sheds and garages on the St Anne’s estate. There have also been reports of night-time prowlers in the Crab Tree Park Estate, off Sparken Hill.

Keep your bike safe. Chain or lock it to an immovable object when unattended and keep it in a locked garage, where possible, overnight. Chain it to a fixed anchor point or other heavy items in your garage, such as your lawn mower or a generator.

We have also dealt with a number of thefts from vehicles. Hub caps have been taken from a couple of vehicles and windows smashed to steal items left inside others.

A thief is less likely to smash a window of your car if there is nothing inside to steal. Do not leave items on display, such as bags and even power leads, and remove valuable items such as sat navs, lap tops, detachable stereos and iPods, and mobile phones.
