St Leonard’s Harvest Supper

The regulars down at St Leonard’s Church like to keep themselves entertained and the social committee is always coming up with new ideas.

This year’s Harvest Supper involved some singing, a bit of poetry and some supper just to keep it traditional.

I made my way into the church and got my complimentary quiz sheet from quizmaster Eric, who once again managed to have the majority of folks scratching their heads as they tried to answer questions such as, can you name the seven firemen in Trumpton?

Eric always makes it a tough one and when I tell you that the winner scored three out of 40 this should give you an idea of how hard it was.

The musical entertainment was provided by the Farrah family from Anston. Lead singer Imogen was backed up by her dad David on the guitar and mum Rachael with backing vocals.

Anston Park Junior School pupil Imogen sings in the Just Sing Plus Choir at Anston St James Church and knows how to entertain. Performing Count On Me by Bruno Mars and One Directions That’s What Makes You Beautiful the eight-year-old had the audience spell bound and received a big round of applause.

As I said it was a Harvest Supper and with it being an exceptional year for mushy peas, the finest available were drafted in from Twybells farm across the road with the biggest meat pie I have ever seen.

Once watered and fed it was time for bingo master Frisby Sam to shake his numbers and the all important Bingo championship began. You could cut the tension with the pie knife and a false house call was greeted with loud boos.

Six balls later and house was correctly called by Jenny Gillard who is in a rich vein of form having recently won the Bassetlaw and District Bingo Championships. As ever a good night was had by all.
