Pressure needs upping on bus station

This was where every school in Bassetlaw welcomed our own Olympic torch that was carried by the Worksop Harriers from school to school.

Without question our young people are enthusiastic about the Olympics and I anticipate the momentum in the country will soon begin to build up into something special.

I have got hold of some tickets to take school children to an event inside the Olympic Park and I will be contacting schools next week with a small competition to help choose who goes.

My annual Veterans & Armed Services event is this year on the afternoon of Friday 6th July at Welbeck.

As before it is open to all Bassetlaw veterans and is a ticketed event.

With the reversal of the street lighting nonsense in Worksop and Carlton-in-Lindrick, thanks must go to everybody who wrote in protesting, we now need a reversal in the villages such as Langold and Blyth.

Increasingly streetlights are being powered though using renewable energy, which means that once they are built there are no energy costs to pay.

Surely this is where the County Council should be going?

I am about to ratchet up the pressure for the Worksop bus station as they umm and err at County Hall.

Queen Street car park is again being suggested by some people. Frankly I do not care where it is all long as it accessible for the town centre and it is warm and dry.

Bassetlaw Council is building more toilets in cemeteries.

I am not convinced. Public toilets are difficult to maintain and expensive. Surely they are best located with other services so that they can be easily looked after?

In Retford there is a church and its community hall next to the cemetery.

Common sense would pay the church a small annual sum to maintain shared toilets.

Congratulations to St Anne’s Church on their centenary and the ways in which they are celebrating it.

A group of their school pupils are down in Westminster next month and the Church remains an outstanding example of community involvement across our area.
