Gary Perkins and Breeze

Having just won the Country Band of the Year award in London last month, Anston’s Gary Perkins and his band The Breeze returned to Dinnington Resource Centre for their November concert.

A packed house of fans both old and new were entertained by the likeable country singer, whose reputation is spreading far and wide.

The High Nook estate’s finest export has always remained close to his roots and the sellout crowd welcomed him home after a working holiday in Benidorm.

Having struggled with a cold and sore throat since his return, Gary had to cancel some concerts and his street entertaining to be ready for this gig, which is one of his favourites and one he didn’t want to miss.

After the concert he said: “Many local people have supported me over the years and I can’t thank them enough for turning out in such numbers.”

Self-penned songs as well as timeless classics are performed with something for everyone.

Drummer Rosie Haywood, who Gary describes as the best in the business, keeps the beat going while bass guitarist Johnny Keep always enjoys himself on stage. Keyboard player Stevie Morris and lead guitarist Andy Mottram treated us to a trendy matching costume set that went down a treat with the ladies.

These guys always make it a fun night and their relaxed manner gives that feel good factor we all need from time to time.

After the interval Gary treated the audience to a John Denver tribute complete with blond wig and glasses that got everyone in the mood to join in with “Take me home, country roads”.

Last week Gary brought out his sixth solo album Listen for a moment, which features previously unheard tracks.

His 2012 diary is now fully booked but can see him perform his street entertainment at Doncaster market square and Lincoln Farmers market in the build up to Christmas.

The band will be back locally in March when they will performing at the Lyric in Dinnington. The concert is in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, and tickets will be available in the New Year.
