Bassetlaw MP pleased to see Government delivering on policing promises

This month, I was out and about with the police patrolling the streets of Carlton-in-Lindrick and discussing the issue of anti-social behaviour.

Many constituents have raised this with me over the past couple of weeks and I also took time to speak to local community campaigner Callum Bailey on the issue.

Earlier this year, I welcomed the announcement that Nottinghamshire had been bolstered by an additional 100 officers since the Government launched its major police recruitment drive one year ago.

The addition of these new officers brings the total number of police across Nottinghamshire up to 2,121 meaning there are now more frontline officers on our streets to keep the public safe.

Since the launch of the Government’s recruitment campaign, a total of 5,824 extra officers have joined police forces across England and Wales.

These statistics confirm that the Government remains fully on track to meet its manifesto commitment of recruiting 20,000 extra officers by 2023 and is ahead of schedule to have the first 6,000 in place by March 2021.

Every one of these officers will make an enormous difference in helping to cut crime and keep people safe – and I know that many more will follow.

By backing our police with the funding, powers and resources they need, we are keeping the public and our communities safe, so that people everywhere can live their lives free from the fear of crime.

Priti Patel, the home secretary, has announced policing will receive up to £15.8 billion in 2021-22 – an increase of £636 million on last year and I totally welcome this news.

Officers and staff at Nottinghamshire Police have been instrumental in keeping our community safe this year, and I pay tribute to them for their hard work and professionalism.

I am delighted to see Nottinghamshire Police getting an additional 12.1 million next year.

I was proud to be elected last year on a promise to get more officers onto the streets and to ensure our police have what they need to keep us safe.

This government is now doing exactly that – ensuring we build back safer as we recover from coronavirus.
