Bassetlaw District Council is ready to resume limited face-to-face services

Over the last five months, Bassetlaw District Council has been providing vital support to the people and businesses in our district who have been directly affected as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Because of the restrictions imposed as part of the measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the majority of these council services have been delivered virtually or over the phone by dedicated officers who have worked hard to ensure the council continued to provide services during what has been an extremely testing and difficult period.

But now, as we all adapt to new ways of working, the council feels it is the right time to start to provide a small number of services face-to-face in its buildings in Worksop and Retford.

These services are initially limited to benefits and money advice, housing needs and homelessness, new council housing tenancy sign-ups, housing and rent officer surgeries, and fraud investigation interviews.

All of these services will be provided on a strictly appointment-only basis and can be booked by calling 01909 533533 and asking for the service you require.

This week, the new toilet and changing places facilities on Bridge Street in Worksop were opened.

There is a small charge of 20p to use the public toilets, which may not be universally popular, but the previous facilities regularly suffered vandalism and attracted anti-social behaviour.

As a council, we had to take action and ensure that visitors could use safe and clean public toilets, which meant a complete refurbishment and employing security staff during opening hours – all of which comes with additional costs.
