The Olympic torch will not be passing through Gainsborough - the closest that torchbearers will come to the town will be 11 miles away in the village of Saxilby on Thursday 28th June.

WLDC will focus on the Olympics at their stand at this year’s Lincolnshire Show and are also currently looking at other opportunities to celebrate the games. Some Olympic-themed events are already taking place in the town:

- The Gainsborough Riverside Festival on Saturday 16th June: the theme is ‘Gainsborough Goes for Gold’

- Gainsborough Old Hall on Monday 6th August - Spirit of the Olympics International Craft Day
