Old pals reunited

EVERY day was a school day for former pupils, teachers and staff from St George’s Primary School who gathered for a special reunion this month.

Around 30 people who attended the school from 1981-2000 took a trip down memory lane at the get-together held at St George’s Church.

Reunion organiser and former pupil Dawn Heatlie, 37, thanked everyone who came to make it a truly ‘special’ and ‘memorable’ event.

“It was really nice to be together with all our teachers and friends again,” she said.

“St George’s Primary School was a really lovely school and I have got a lot of happy memories there - from going camping with Mr Corringham to being in the choir with Mrs Irwin.”

Dawn, who started at St George’s when it first opened in 1981, said she was inspired to organise the first-ever reunion after looking through some old school photos.

“I’d seen many school groups on Facebook but there wasn’t one for St George’s so I decided to organise an event and it went from there,” she said.

“I asked the school if I could have a walkaround in March this year and some of the teachers suggested I organise a proper reunion, so I did and it turned out well.”

Dawn said it was great to catch up with her former classmates and reminisce about their old schooldays.

Ongoing renovation work at St George’s Primary School meant Dawn had to hold the reunion elsewhere, but she said she hopes to make the event a regular annual fixture.
