Notts: Youngsters get behind-the-scenes look at workings of police

A group of youngsters have been given a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of Notts Police.

It comes as part of the ‘Tap the Gap’ initiative, which aims to help give opportunities to students from black and minority ethnic communities, those with a disability and/or in childcare to experience career options within the public sector.

A display showed how crash investigators assess the scene of a collision, how police dogs respond to offenders who flee the scene of crime, and how they track people in possession of drugs.

Firearms officers also spoke to them about their role and the impact carrying weapons can have, and demonstrated the use of taser.

PC Gavin Berry, who took part in the demonstration, said: “It is important that young people are given career choices, and Tap the Gap enables us to provide those who could be the next generation of police officers and staff with an insight into an area that isn’t freely available.”
