Notts: Solar farm plans presented to community

Plans for a solar farm at Perlethorpe-cum-Budby will be presented to local residents.

Initial plans for the site on land north of Netherfield Lane would generate locally sourced energy for around 4,600 homes.

Lightsource Renewable Energy have appealed to the local community in hopes to draw on local knowledge to help shape plans to ensure they best fit their surroundings.

The plans will be posted at a Community Information Evening on Tuesday 26th August at Perlethorpe Village Hall from 5.30-8pm.

The project could provide an agrigcultural use as the whole farm would be seeded with grass including the area underneath the solar panels. The gaps between the panels would also mean that it would be suitable for sheep to graze on the land.

Lightsource say that the solar farm will be screened by existing woodland. Gaps in vegetation to the south of the site would be filled with new plants to minimise views from Netherfield Lane and the A616.

Conor McGuigan, planning and development director as Lightsource, said: “It’s the ability to generate clean, safe electricity whilst maintaining a respect for rural traditions that makes solar power sucha viable renewable energy source.”

“In addition to gaining important feedback from the surrounding community, we want to give residents an opportunity to ask questions they may have about the development or solar energy in general.”
