Notts: Sixty per cent of local school kitchens need ‘significant’ changes

With a September deadline in place, the Council have completed work at 15 schools that were on its projected list. One of which was Langold Dyscarr Community School, who underwent their trial last week, and are now in the process of making the changes recommended by the Council.

Fifoot said: “Significant changes are needed to kitchens at the 60 per cent - or 144 schools – but we are on schedule to have arrangements in place by the start of the autumn term.”

Since the trial, Langold Dyscarr are now in the process of extending their capacity of their dining hall, implementing a new nutritiously balanced ‘traditional’ menu as well as installing new furniture to help facilitate the changes.

“Having done the trial, the big thing for us was to make sure we get children through adequately and eat without waiting in long ques,” Angela Huthart, the Langold Dyscarr head teacher, said.

“There’s going to be an increase in numbers, but having done the trial, the children were very positive with the plans we have to improve the menu as well as the dining experience.”
