Notts: Police appeal after spate of fuel thefts

Police are appealing for information and issuing advice after large amounts of fuel were stolen from vehicles in Smalley, South Normanton and Barlborough during the past week.

The most recent took place sometime between 8pm on Wednesday, 9th October and 3.15am on Thursday, 10th October.

Diesel was stolen from a lorry parked in a lay-by on the A616 at Barlborough.

Also during the same night diesel was stolen from a digger on Fordbridge Lane, South Normanton.

In Smalley, diesel was taken from a lorry parked at Allsop Plant and Haulage, on Heanor Road, sometime between Saturday, 5th October and Monday, 7th October.

There have also been three reports of the fuel caps on vehicles being damaged.

Both residents and local businesses and firms are advised to reduce the risk of having fuel stolen by parking securely, in a garage or busy, well lit area and to fit and use a locking filler cap.
