Notts: Paddy Tipping seeks volunteers for Animal Welfare Scheme

The scheme is designed to provide an impartial and independent check that the dogs used by the police are well looked after and cared for properly.

The role will involve visits to the police kennels to observe the dogs training, check on their condition and welfare and then report back to the commissioner’s office. This is a purely voluntary role, although expenses will be paid.

Mr Tipping said: “We take a keen interest in the welfare of those who work for Notts Police and the police dogs are no exception. They are important members of the team.”

The commissioner is seeking people who have a basic understanding of working animals, although training will be given. It is expected that 12 visits per year will be required to check on the condition in which the dogs are kept, their feeding regime and their general well-being.
