However only one of those calls required an emergency response.

Chief Fire Officer, Frank Swann, said: “Due to the small number of calls we received, our contingency plans coped well during this period of industrial action but we are continuing to recruit additional staff to support our efforts for any future strikes.”

“As this is a matter between the FBU and the Government at a national level, we hope that negotiations will resume in order to bring an end to this dispute as soon as possible.”

The one incident attended was dealt with by crews responding from a picket line when a motorcyclist was involved in an incident near to Highfields Fire Station.

Firefighters at Highfields Fire Station responded from the picket line after a rider had come off a motor-scooter near to the station and firefighters gave first aid to the man until East Midlands Ambulance Service arrived.
