Notts: Mansfield and District Samaritans answered 20,000 calls last year

Mansfield and District Samaritans answered nearly 20,000 calls last year, according to new figures announced this week.

In the East Midlands as a whole, there were 1,100 volunteeers and the service was contacted 323,991 by people struggling to cope.

The figures also show the number of people volunterring with Samaritans across the UK and ROI reached a ten year high of 21,200.

The charity is also calling for new volunteers as part of National Volunteers Week, 1st-7th June.

Director of Mansfield District Samaritans, said: “I am so grateful to our volunteers.”

“We would not exist without the commitment of these generous people.”

“We know that our callers benefit from having a real person at the end of the line, someone who is trained to really listen to them and I would like to thank them.”
