Notts: Help on offer as residents bombarded with scam mail

A handful of Notts residents are getting through an entire chequebook in just two months responding to scams they receive in the post.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Trading Standards Team has found that in some cases this year they have been shown used chequebooks where all 25 available cheques have been sent by residents within a matter of weeks as they respond to the huge number of requests they receive.

These examples are being highlighted as part of Chartered Trading Standards Institute’s Scams Awareness Month 2015 – a national campaign which aims to tackle scams.

Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, committee chairman for community safety at Notts County Council, said: “With our commitment to the safety and welfare of our local communities, we are most concerned to protect vulnerable people who are being affected by scam mail and we are keen to highlight this.” issue again as part of Scams Awareness Month.”
