More than 1,200 people have already registered their views on the plans to create a single, integrated safeguarding service for both children and adults.

There are also plans to relocate the meals on wheels distribution centre to County Enterprise Foods in Worksop, where the meals are made.

The council must reduce its annual spending by £77m by 2017/18 due to reductions in Government funding for public services, increased demand for services and new legislation.

Coun Alan Rhodes, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “It is vital everyone finds out about what is being proposed and has their say - we do listen. Following public feedback last year we changed a number of the initial proposals, including scrapping plans to do away with a specialist service for people with Asperger’s, keeping open a community cafe run by trainees with disabilities and retaining our welfare advice service.”

So far, opposition has been voiced against running a pilot scheme, in partnership with a district council, which would aim to improve recycling rates and cut waste disposal costs and reduce the subsidy paid to bus companies to provide services in areas where it is not commercially viable.

The cut-backs could also result in the loss of 490 county council posts over the next two years.

The consultation will be open until 16th January 2015. Visit www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/budget.
