The four-hour strike is part of a national move by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), and firefighters from Notts, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire will all be involved.

Contingency plans are in place, but Notts Fire and Rescue is urging residents only to call 999 in urgent cases.

A spokesperson said: “As always, the safety of our communities remains paramount and the service has contingency plans in place to ensure it is ready to respond to all emergencies.”

“However, on the nominated strike day the service will not be operating to its usual capacity and, we would ask the public to assist us by only dialling 999 and asking for the fire service if it is a genuine emergency.”

“NFRS will not be responding to automated fire alarms unless the alarm is backed up by a 999 phone call confirming that there is a genuine fire or other incident.”
