Notts fire service to pay respects to the armed forces

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, NFRS, will join forces with the Army Reserve to show their support for Armed Forces Day.

The service will attend the annual Wollaton Park celebrations where fire crews from Collingham, Stapleford and Highfields will work with members of the Army Reserve’s 144 Parachute Regiment to demonstrate a vehicle extrication and rescue.

The event will see one of the service’s firefighters, who is also a reservist with 144 Parachute Regiment based in Nottingham, come together with both his Army Reserve and NFRS colleagues to support the event.

Station Manager Damien West said: “We are proud to support the Armed Forces and this year we will work closely with Army Reservists to demonstrate the similarities in our roles to the public.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

Damien said: “Demonstrations show the public the lifesaving skills that our firefighters use every day, and to be able to work alongside members of a local Army Reserve unit, with which we have links, is a privilege, as their skills and training play a role in protecting our nation.

“We will continue supporting members of the Armed Forces at NFRS and our proud of our local heroes, some of whom we employ in roles across the Service.”

NFRS has already supported a number of events including Retford and St Anns Armed Forces Day events on 18 June and are due to support Armed Forces Day Proms in the Park in West Bridgford on Saturday, June 25.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have a long history of supporting the Armed Forces, and signed the Armed Forces Covenant to pledge their support to the Armed Forces Community in January this year.

The Armed Forces Day celebrations take place at Wollaton Park on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June.
