Notts: Fire Service announces strike plans

This forms part of a dispute between the FBU and the Government on pension arrangements; the dispute is not between Nottinghamshire and Rescue Service and its staff.

A Notts Fire Service spokesman said: “As always, the safety of our communities remains paramount and the service has contingency plans in place to ensure it is ready to respond to all emergencies.”

“However, on the nominated strike days the service will not be operating to its usual capacity and, with this in mind, we would ask the public to assist us by only dialling 999 and asking for the fire service if it is a genuine emergency. Such calls will be responded to by the fire service.”

“In light of the reduced resources available during these hours, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue will not be responding to automated fire alarms unless the alarm is backed up by a 999 phone call confirming that there is a genuine fire or other incident.”

“We would also appeal to people to take extra care to ensure they keep themselves and their families safe by following our six steps to safety, also available on our website.”

“This includes fitting and regularly testing smoke alarms, having a nightly bedtime routine, making an escape plan, taking care when cooking, checking electrics and ensuring cigarettes are fully extinguished.”
