Notts County Council’s trading standards department has swiped 67 of the hats from shelves and stalls.

They are made of furry material and look like a stuffed toy animal head, Hello Kitty or ‘Despicable Me’ Minion. They have ties which form a noose - making them dangerous.

“Local people may be tempted to buy one of these hats for a child they know for Christmas or a child may buy one out of their Christmas money,” said Coun Glynn Gilfoyle.

“We are urging people to avoid buying one of these hats or if their child has one to throw it in the bin as they are likely to be a major safety hazard.”

Report similar hats for sale to Citizen’s Advice on 08454 04 05 06.

The council has warned traders not to sell similar items and has told local markets signed up to the Real Deal to keep a look out for such items on sale.
