Statistics show that 2,527 people in the county contacted the charity between April 2012 and March 2013, five per cent more than the year before.

Crimestoppers celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and the charity says the results highlight its continuing influence in the fight against crime.

The regional increase is in line with the national picture, which saw five per cent more actionable information passed to law enforcement agencies.

It is hailed as further proof of the public’s trust in the charity which guarantees anonymity to callers.

Glynn Gilfoyle, Notts volunteer chairman for Crimestoppers, said: “To have results like this in Crimestoppers’ 25th year is a really positive result for Nottinghamshire and I am delighted for the charity and the local community.”

“With your help, you can make these results even better by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through our secure online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org with information about crime.”
