Notts County Council has revealed it has no plans to close any of county’s 60 libraries, despite the budget cuts that have been proposed for the next three years.

The council says it can achieve savings of £1 million, partly through an innovative plan to preserve smaller libraries through a community partnership approach. It intends to consult communities on this proposal.

Coun John Knight, council committee chairman for culture, said: “We are totally committed to our libraries and are working tirelessly to find ways of preserving our service to the public.”

“We are passionate that we do everything in our power to keep our libraries open.”
