Notts: Carers now have more choices of where to take short breaks

Notts carers are being reminded of the greater choice in short breaks now available to them.

The County Council currently provides support and advice for around 4,400 unpaid carers in the county who look after or give support to a relative at a cost of £4.7m. This includes short breaks at Council-owned respite units and approved residential or home care services in the independent and private sector to give carers a break.

Under recent changes, eligible carers will also be able to arrange their own break through the use of a direct payment.

Carers can choose a provider from an approved list, which is a joint scheme with the Council and local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups.
