Nottinghamshire Police to tackle the domestic violence increase

More than four in ten of the violent incidents reported to Nottinghamshire Police are related to domestic violence, recent figures show.

But Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Chris Cutland thinks that this is “only the tip of a very worrying iceberg.”

She said that crimes like these have devastating effects on everyone concerned and that many children involved go on to have mental health issues.

Ms Cutland spoke about domestic violence at Tackling Domestic Violence in Faith Communities and described it as a complex crime and said that it happens in all walks of life.

She said: “faith is a really important aspect in many people’s lives, setting our standards and often our moral compass.

“It is important that we all understand that many aspects of domestic violence and abuse are illegal, immoral and against the teachings of our religions.”

Nottinghamshire Police’s DCI Yvonne Dales said that they are committed to tackling this problem and will work in partnership with others to ensure support for victims and survivors.

They will be given help to cope and recover.

Ms Cutland added that the community has a duty to support the victims.
