Nottinghamshire man arrested for posting recordings of cinema movies online

A 33-year-old man was arrested and questioned on Friday (September 18) following an investigation from the Government Agency Intelligence Network (GAIN) and the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).

Officers executed search warrants in the Hucknall area on Friday and electronics such as laptops and computers were taken for examination.

FACT received information that the films American Ultra and The Scorch Trials had been posted on the Internet after they were recorded at a cinema on the days they were released.

These types of offences fall under the Fraud Act 2006.

Kieron Sharp, director general at FACT, said it is “crucial” that they act on intelligence they receive about this kind of activity.

It was then referred to GAIN, who track down organised crimes.

A spokesman for East Midlands GAIN said: “This operation very much exemplifies what GAIN is all about - acting on intelligence gathered through the network and coordinating the enforcement operation in conjunction with the body which regulates the offending activity and local or regional police resources.

“Clearly, this case is now active following the arrest and execution of the warrant so it would be inappropriate to comment further on this case.”

The 33-year-old has now been released on bail pending further enquiries.
