North Anston: Police team completes challenge for children’s hospice

A group from Derbyshire Police’s OzBox team swapped their boxing gloves for walking boots to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge.

The team completed the 28 mile feat in less than ten hours and raised more than £2,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston.

They climbed Win Hill Pike, Alport Castles and the cairn at Lost Lad before finally descending at Ladybower Tor.

The group, including police officers, OzBox staff and volunteers, completed the challenge to raise money for specialist equipment for the hospice.

OzBox coach, PC Lee Oldham, recently visited the hospice which looks after children across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire.

He organised the challenge after being inspired on his visit.

PC Oldham said: “The whole atmosphere, the warmth and caring that goes into the running of the hospice radiates from the moment you are greeted at reception.”

“The staff were inspirational and caring and offer brilliant support to the children and their whole family.”

“I am extremely grateful for the enthusiasm, support and time everyone has put into the event.”

“Everyone has been fantastic and it’s amazing what they’ve done.”

One of the walkers was OzBox founder Steve Osbaldeston MBE.

He added: “I am amazed at the pace and enjoyment we had doing the Three Peaks challenge.

“It was a long day but well worth doing, we definitely slept well that night.”

The team is now preparing to hand over the money to the hospice.
