Bassetlaw District Council Planning Committee gave the green light to Worksop’s Dukeries Brewery to develop the former Rubicon nightclub on Newcastle Avenue on September 28.

Phillip Longley, head brewer of Dukeries Brewery Limited said in th eapplication the new venture would be a great opportunity to improve the vacant site and bring increased trade and employment to Worksop.

Paula Quinn marketing manager for Dukeries, which has been brewing on Blyth Road for four years, said: “ We will be selling our own beers and supporting other local breweries too.

“We are hoping to have screens where customers can watch our head brewer do his magic and organise visits to the micro-brewery itself.”

The proposal involves the creation of a staff only area at the ground floor where the brewing will take place and a mezzanine storey which will have the brewery tap (public bar area) and toilets.

The upper storey will be where customers will be served with brewed products, including real ales.

There will be no external physical changes and internally will consist of removing the raised stage area enclosing one of the former seating areas as a chilled store and installing the brewing equipment and ancillary gear.

The ground floor will be used for the brewing operation, taking deliveries and loading outgoing orders, storage of empty casks and general storage.
