WHITWELL Local History Group: On 29th May, Mr Kevin Topham, who had worked as a bomb disposal officer and in the oil and gas industry, gave a talk entitled the Secrets of Sherwood Forest - not the famous outlaw Robin Hood but the secret search for oil during the Second World War. 43 oil field workers were sent to sink 100 wells near Eakring and were found lodgings with the monks at Kelham Hall. The site is now owned by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust who have set up a small museum.
