BARLBOROUGH Heritage and Visitors’ Centre: A Morning of Nostalgia, Saturday 9th June, 10am in Park View Community Centre. Includes a film show of past Renishaw Galas from 1937-1954 plus a short film of Barlborough in the winter of 1947. Numbers are limited. WELL DRESSING: The 2012 Elmton Well Dressing will go on display in Elmton village, near Creswell on Friday 29th June, 7pm, and will remain on display for approximately two weeks. WHITWELL Local History Group: On 29th May, Mr Kevin Topham, who had worked as a bomb disposal officer and in the oil and gas industry, gave a talk entitled the Secrets of Sherwood Forest - not the famous outlaw Robin Hood but the secret search for oil during the Second World War. 43 oil field workers were sent to sink 100 wells near Eakring and were found lodgings with the monks at Kelham Hall. The site is now owned by the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust who have set up a small museum.
