BASSETLAW NCT: Nearly New Sale, Saturday 29th September at North Notts Arena. The sale is promising to be the biggest yet with more than 80 sellers offering hundreds of pre-loved items for sale, including a huge selection of toys, nursery equipment and clothes to kit out your child from newborn to five. Doors open at 11.30am and entry is just £1. The first 400 entrants get an NCT goody bag.

BASSETLAW Stroke Information Service: Is a new service for residents, funded by NHS Bassetlaw and Notts County Council and delivered by Bassetlaw Action Centre. The service provides advice, information and support to stroke survivors, and their families and carers for as long as it is needed. A case worker is available to assist you to access services that you may require to support your return to day-to-day life. Advice and support is available for practical things like: filling in forms, applying for benefits, assistance with looking at housing needs and with adaptations that are required, other practical assistance, support to return back to work, signposting to other relevant services/agencies, put people in contact with other stroke survivors or just a listening ear! DUKERIES Decorative And Fine Arts Society: At their most recent meeting members were entertained by a most informative talk on the history of the chair by Janujsz Karczewski-Slowikowski. He began his talk back in the time of the pharaohs with examples of thrones found in their tombs. Eventually he spoke about the development of the chair, not as you might expect from the throne, but from the stool. He showed how, over the centuries, the stool had acquired a back and then arms, and had become increasingly ornate and elegant. The society resumes its meetings after the summer break at 1.55pm on Wednesday 3rd October in St Anne’s Hall, Worksop, when Jeanne Dolmetsch will talk about Music and Manners: Life in 18th Century England. WORKSOP Wonders WI: The September meeting saw the members enjoying a light hearted games evening followed by refreshments. We had enjoyed an evening out in August when 20 of us visited Carburton Water Meadows. Taken around on a trailer, pulled by a tractor we had a very informative and enjoyable evening. This was followed by supper at The Greendale Oak in Cuckney. Our next meeting on October 10th, held at The Crossing, Worksop starting at 7pm will be a speaker when George Buchanan will tell us about Growing Up In Hodsock Priory.
