Newly transformed Worksop train station is now complete

Work to transform Worksop Train Station has been completed.

Representatives of the organisations involved in the refurbishment, including the Charter Mayor of Worksop, Network Rail, Railway Heritage Trust, Bassetlaw District Council, Worksop Business Forum and Friends of Worksop Station, gathered together to celebrate the completion of the work and look forward to an exciting future for the station.

Network Rail, supported by the Railways Heritage Trust, and contractors CML, has now completed an authentic restoration of the historic, grade 2-listed.

The station canopies, roofs and windows have been carefully refurbished and repainted, as well as the signal box at the Carlton Road crossing.

Janet Turlington, Network Rail customer manager, said “Network Rail is delighted to have carried out this project with the Railway Heritage Trust and to be positively contributing to the experience of the community in and around Worksop.”

Rick Brand, vice chair of North Notts and Lincs Community Rail Partnership (NNLCRP), said: “We are very grateful to Network Rail, the Railway Heritage Trust, Northern Rail and contractors CML, for completing these works so sympathetically.

“When Northern Rail is able to introduce its new services during 2019, Worksop Station will provide an even better service to commuters and leisure travellers alike.”

Andy Savage, of the Railway Heritage Trust was delighted with the outcome of the work by Network Rail and CML and was identifying future projects for investment, in partnership with Northern Rail, to further improve the station.

Coun David Pidwell, cabinet member for transport at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “It’s fantastic that so many organisations have worked together to complete this important restoration.”

Worksop Station will also be featuring in this year’s Worksop Charter celebrations which are set to take place on on Saturday, September 8.
