The new, purpose-built Household Waste Recycling Centre boasts a number of improvements over the existing site in Summergangs Lane, Gainsborough, which will close at the end of this month.

A one-way system and convenient layout will make it much more convenient to use, and reduce the likelihood of queues building up.

The new facility includes several large compactors which will allow more material to be compressed and stored onsite as well as reducing both the cost and the carbon footprint of hauling it from the site for disposal or recycling.

It will also mean that a wider range of materials can be recycled rather than being disposed of.

Any waste that is not recyclable will be transferred to a waste transfer station before it goes to the Energy from Waste facility.

This is currently generating enough electricity to power 26,500 homes for a year through processing waste.

Members of staff will be on-hand at all times to offer guidance and help to anyone who needs it.

The whole area is flat, and fully accessible to anyone with reduced mobility.

All staff from the current Household Waste Recycling Centre in Gainsborough have been offered the opportunity to transfer to the new site and the new site will be staffed by five people at all times.

Charity banks will also be available for textiles, books and CDs.

There is a height barrier, limiting vehicles to a height of 6ft 6 inches or two metres and this is to restrict access to trade vehicles.

There will be a designated parking area for oversize vehicles to offload waste onto trolleys if they require.

The existing Household Waste Recycling Centre in Summergangs Lane, which is owned and managed by a private party, will be open up until 4pm on Monday 30th March.

And the new site in Longwood Road, Corringham Road Industrial Estate, Gainsborough, DN21 1AH, will open at 9am on Friday 3rd April.
