New pre-school set to open in Lea

A BRAND-NEW pre-school is opening in Lea, near Gainsborough to provide ‘an essential facility for the community’.

Lea Pre-School and Kids’ Club opens at Frances Olive Anderson Community Primary School in January, but this week local youngsters went along and enjoyed their first taster sessions for fun, games and to meet their new friends and teachers.

Proprietor of the pre-school Alison White said that it was great to be finally be able to open in Lea.

“An awful lot of work into making this possible,” she said.

“We’ve been working in close partnership with the school because they really wanted to provide local families with what they need.”

Alison said that the new facility, which can take 24 children from the age of 2, would provide Lea families with a service that the village has previously severely lacked.

“We’ll be offering the school and club for extended times from 8am - 5.30pm for parents that need to work,” she said. “This is essential because the parents that have come in today have all said that they’ve had to travel to Sturton, Gainsborough, Saxilby and Lincoln for their early years care.

“Hopefully the kids will then stay and progress through the school.”

Alison continued: “This will really help the children with their transition if they do stay here. It will be wonderful for them to be able to make friends before they start their formal education.”

Now that the new-starters seem to have settled into their new surroundings, Lea Pre-School and Kids’ Club say that they are looking forward to the future.

“The kids have been perfectly happy to be here playing and learning with each other - you wouldn’t think that they’d only been here a few hours,” said Alison.

“We’d like to thank everyone at Frances Olive Anderson Community Primary School, especially Mrs Dagg who has been extremely supportive.”
