New Nottinghamshire peer mentors ready to begin vital support work

The Nottinghamshire change, grow, live (CGL) service, New Directions, celebrated the success and achievements of its latest cohort of service uers who have progressed on to being trained peer mentors.

Peer mentors are individuals who are positive role models and provide active support for others starting on their road to recovery and supporting them to achieve their goals.

These mentors are now supporting CGL service users in Nottinghamshire with their recovery by delivering a number of peer support groups.

Furthermore, being a peer mentor is valuable work experience which can further enhance their employment opportunities.

Minesh Patel, service manager, said: “This event was a fantastic way to celebrate the incredible achievements of our service users and to recognise their efforts and hard work.

“I am extremely proud of the service users that took part in the course as they are integral to giving our service users the support they need on their journey to recovery.”

Cherrell Sellers, a peer mentor, added: “The mentoring course was a fantastic experience. It has given me ongoing opportunities and I love being a peer mentor.”
