New health group set out their plans

Led by an executive team of seven GPs, the Bassetlaw Commissioning Organisation (BCO) will take over from the PCT from October this year.

BCO chairman Dr Steve Kell, who is based at Larwood Surgery, said they want to continue the PCT’s work of being a “strong local voice” for healthcare services.

“We are extremely keen to ensure we get the best healthcare for patients because we recognise that the people of Bassetlaw are extremely passionate about their services,” he said.

“The GPS are committed to making sure patients are seen in the right place as quickly as possible, and that all patients who require specialist input continue to receive this now and in the future.”

He added: “We are also working really hard with the hospital to improve services for patients.”

BCO has been working with the PCT for the past 15 months as part of a national NHS drive for clinically-led, value-for-money patient healthcare.

The partnership will continue until April 2013 when the PCT disbands.

The plan aims to increase primary care services in the community - setting up new services for orthopaedics, dermatology and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

BCO must find savings of £5.7m over the next year and said the scheme aims to reduce the number of A&E attendances for minor injuries and illnesses, cut down on avoidable hospital visits and ensure cost-effective prescribing.

Dr Kell said the team are proud to have been identified as a Pathfinder last year - meaning BCO is seen as a national example of good practice to other clinical commissioning groups.

“We have also just been shortlisted for a national award as a finalist for the msot advanced CCG by the National Association of Primary Care which reflects the huge amount of progress made in a short time,” he said.

BCO wants to ensure its work is fully informed by the views of local residents and is urging as many people as possible to get involved.
