New gallery opens its doors

A NEW gallery and art supplies shop has opened on Carlton Road in, bringing a splash of colour to the town.

Owners Cheryl and Roger Green opened The Gallery just a fortnight ago and are already proving a big hit with both artists and shoppers.

“At our opening night we had invited our artists who are exhibiting at the moment, students from North Notts College, friends and family,” said Cheryl.

Cheryl, 52, is an artist herself working mainly in textiles and paint, while husband Roger, 57, is a picture framer and events photographer.

The creative couple, from Gateford, were looking for a suitable premises to launch their business for around three years before deciding on the Carlton Road unit.

“It’s nice and close to the town centre and also along one of the main routes into Worksop,” said Cheryl. So we hope to have lots of passing trade, especially in the run up to Christmas.”

Local artists like Jim Gregory, Debbie Fisher and Deepdale designs currently have their works in The Gallery, and all are available to buy.

Cheryl said: “The idea is to use local artists and get stock as much variety as possible, from paintings and ceramics to jewellery and wood turning.” Soon the space will be used to display some of the GCSE art work from students at the Outwood Academy schools.

And look out for a range of textiles and painting classes coming in the new year.
