Mum organises charity ball for Anthony Nolan Trust after son had life changing Bone Marrow transplant

A Saxilby mum has organised a charity ball after her son recieved a life changing Bone Marrow transplant.

Toby Booth was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition in 2007 and needed intensive chemotherapy and a Bone Marrow transport.

Toby was lucky and a 29-year-old male donated his red cells to give Toby a chance of life.

And as Toby gets ready to celebrate his 13th birthday in December, his mum, Helen Booth, has organised a charity ball at Hemswell Court on Saturday, December 10, to raise money for Anthony Nolan Trust.

Helen said: “Our son Toby was diagnosed in 2007 with a very rare genetic condition affecting only one in one million and our whole world stopped.

“The condition was called Severe Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID), sometimes referred to as Boy in the Bubble Syndrome.

“And as he was born without a functioning immune system his only hope of survival was intensive chemotherapy and a Bone Marrow Transplant.”

Helen said that every £100 raised will help recruit and look after each new bone marrow donor that could save the life of someone suffering from Leukaemia or other blood disorders.

She said at present half of those patients do not have a match and this is their only chance of a cure.

Helen said: “As well as a meal, there is a charity casino, photo booth and dancing.

“Auction prizes on the night include a Personal Tour of Battle of Britain, Memorial Flight and framed limited print, three course meal at Branston Hall and chauffeaur courtesy of Lincoln Co-operative Limited, Four Ball at Stapleford Park, Golf, car for the weekend from Audi Lincoln, Four Ball at Lincoln Golf Club and Clay Pigeon Shooting in conjunction with Forest Lodge Guns, Wragby.
