Motorcyclist jailed for fatal Notts crash

Motorcyclist David Staley has been jailed after he caused a collision which killed a woman.

David Staley had been performing wheelies and riding his Honda motorbike at high speed along Middleton Boulevard, Nottingham, moments before he struck cyclist Sally Shalloe as she crossed the road down from near the Crown Island junction at around 7.30am on April 21, 2015.

Both Mrs Shalloe and Staley had to be taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre following the collision.

Mrs Shalloe died shortly after her arrival.

Staley was seriously injured in the collision, but witnesses reported seeing the motorbike he was riding travelling at dangerously high speeds, performing wheelies and weaving in and out of traffic shortly it collided with 52-year-old Mrs Shalloe.

Staley was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and immediately disqualified from driving.

He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court in March and pleaded guilty to the charge.

At his sentencing at the same court on Friday (13 March) he was told that in addition to the two year prison sentence, his driving disqualification would be extended by another five years following his release.

Detective Sergeant Ged Hazelwood, of the East Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Staley’s riding behaviour on that morning is absolutely inexplicable. It was idiotic, dangerous and ultimately fatal.

“The impact Sally’s death has had on her family has been dreadful. To have to come to terms with the death of a loved one because of one individual’s stupidity and selfishness is unimaginable.”
