Money awarded to restore Kirton in Lindsey church tower

The project aims to repair the Tower and make it open to the public for a sight of the fantastic views.

Development funding of £15,800 has also been awarded to help the Parochial Church Council progress their plans to apply for a full grant at a later date.

The project aims to carry out essential conservation work to the Tower and the Tympanum, bringing them back to their former glory.

The Tower is very old, 13th Century and the Tympanum, the lintel over the priest’s door, is Norman.

The building is a focal point for the local community and is currently used by over 60 regular worshippers and a number of Community groups. It was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and has been an Anglican Church since the reformation. It is now home to the Anglicans, Methodists and Baptists in Kirton.

Kathy Colwell, Priest in Charge and Enid Knowles, Methodist Minister said: “We’re delighted that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given us this support. The Church has been the core of the Town for a thousand years and inspires many as a Place of Worship and a Heritage building.”

“The project will enable lots of people to be involved in a volunteer capacity and, at the end, we will be able to be open to the public on a regular basis.”
