Gainsborough Old Hall, run by Lincolnshire County Council and owned by English Heritage, now boasts an online presence worthy of its status.

The new site is designed to help people make the most of their visit, discover more about the property’s history and find out about hiring the venue for weddings and other private events.

Coun Nick Worth, executive member for libraries and culture, said: “A vast number of people use the net to plan their free time, and the quality of a website can make or break their decision to visit.”

“So we wanted a site that truly reflected just how amazing the Old Hall is, as well as give all the information someone would need to help make their journey exciting, interesting and enjoyable.”

The website includes 360-degree photographs of the hall’s main rooms, offering visitors a glimpse into what it can offer as a great day out, while a calendar of events will help them plan the best time to visit. Renowned historian Jonathan Foyle has kick-started the site’s new blog with a review of his outing to the attraction. He said: “Gainsborough Old Hall is an utter surprise - towards the top of anyone’s list.”

The launch of the new website comes a year after the introduction of the Old Hall’s multimedia tour guides.

Like the website, the iGuides are packed with interactive elements that help bring history to life like never before.

The new site at www.gainsborougholdhall.com launches tomorrow (Friday).
