The students, from Learning Development, put their DIY skills together and came up with the idea of building a story tellers area for the children.

They created a story-teller’s chair as the main feature and painted the surrounding walls in different themes, making a bright and attractive area for the children to play.

“The result is quite staggering and very impressive” said Mick Cox, tutor at North Notts College.

“The artwork of different themes on the walls works really well creating a fun space for the children to play.”

“It was an excellent idea the students came up with.”

“They have worked really hard using their craft, design and technology skills they have learnt over the last year to design, cut out, sand and paint the different themed boards.”

“We went over to the centre to put up the artwork and add the final touches and this has transformed the shelter into a real child friendly and colourful environment.”

“The outside sheltered area now looks fabulous, we are so pleased with the results and intend to get a plaque made and engraved in recognition for the students’ hard workm” added Tracey Chapman, temporary manager at Misterton Children’s Centre.

“We are really grateful for all the effort the students and staff have put into this project and would like to thank everyone involved.”

“These projects help both the community and students, providing us with a more enjoyable area for children to play and providing the students with vital work experience”.
