Men arrested following armed robbery outside Swallonest bank

POLICE have arrested eight men in connection with the armed robbery of a security van outside a bank in Swallownest.

Officers arrested four men aged 17, 19, 21 and 22 - all from the Swallonest area - in connection with the robbery and burglaries involving ATM cash machines on Thursday morning.

The 17-year-old has since been bailed and the other three men remain in police custody.

Police later arrested a further four men, all in their mid 30s, in connection with the armed robbery and other burglary related offences.

One of the men has now been bailed and today (Friday) the remaining three were still in police custody .

The arrests follow the armed raid of a security van parked outside the Bank of Scotland, on High Street on Tuesday 27th September.

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Robinson said: “We have had a good response from members of the public following our appeal and this police action is due to the on-going hard work and dedication of the officers investigating this armed robbery.”

“I want to reassure members of the public that we are doing everything we can to ensure those responsible for this armed robbery are caught and brought to justice.”

Officers are still asking members of the public to contact the police immediately if they witnessed the robbery, have information about what happened, or saw the white transit van in the Swallownest area, or on King Street, following the raid.
